Portage R.R. Monument

Old Portage Railroad Monument on the William Penn Highway. I have no idea if this still exists along side the road.

Does this monument still exist and if so, where is it located?

The monument still exists. It is on old route 22 just east of (below) the Lemon House at Allegheny Portage Railroad NHS. It is adjacent to the Skew Arch Bridge which carried the Huntingdon to Indiana turnpike over the old portage railroad. It sits on a tract of land between the east and west bound lanes just where they divide below the summit. Until a few years ago it sat very close to the berm of the east bound lanes. It was struck by vehicles several times and snow plowing did not help it. Its current orientation is very similar to what it was originally as we simply rotated it toward the center of the tract.
