Marsha Saintz Lessig sent in this clipping of her mother Mary Jane (Frum) Saintz and her "aunt" Wanda: Lovely Wanda Varner, 19, kneeling is crowned Johnstown High School Queen of the May by Mary Jane Frum, who reigned last year. The coronation highlighted the senior prom in the JHS gym last night. Standing by are Betty Stober, in the black dress, who was runnerup for the queen title and thereby served as attendant, Barbara Long, crown-bearer. Miss Varner is a commercial student and after graduation will begin work as a secretary for the General Electric Supply Corp., Hickory St. She has been very active in school activities and also serves as secretary of the Greater Johnstown Teen Canteen. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth R. Varner of 305 Chandler Avenue., witnessed the crowning.

Any idea what year?

It would have been my mother's (Betty Stober/Robel) graduation year when she was 18 y.o., 1947.

Great picture. I've printed it out and am taking it to her tomorrow. She's in an assisted living facility here in Denver, CO 20 minutes from my house. Write to hdst03@hotmail.com if you would like to reach her (Betty).
Thanks, Eric Robel

Eric,

What a neat thing to run across completely at random.
